6. Description Abstract Although Horror had a low profile in Australian cinema – and, indeed, Australian popular culture in general – during most of the twentieth century. The film Wolf Creek was an exception and one of its many significances is that it has broken through to the mainstream and managed to produce a local inflection of the genre with international appeal. This chapter examines the authorial intentions behind the film’s design, direction and soundtrack composition and the manner in which the final film text combines, develops – and/or deviates from – these.
