6. Description Abstract This chapter shows that numerous linguistic facts can be explained in terms of metonymic mappings, acting on conceptual structures known as cognitive models and scenarios. Moreover, it explains that it is possible to account for a number of propositional as well as illocutionary transfers of meaning in particular contexts in terms of the same basic cognitive metonymic mechanism.
