ALPSP Learned Journals Collection

‘… a real advantage for the smaller publishers' - Judy Luther, Informed Strategies

What is ALJC?

The ALPSP Learned Journal Collection is a single collection of journals, published by our members, that is sold to library consortia and other major customers worldwide by Swets, one of the world's leading subscription agents.

ALJC contains 657 journals from 40 highly respected small and medium sized publishers who are all members of ALPSP. By taking part in ALJC, members are able to sell their titles into larger consortia accessing ‘Big Deals’ they would not otherwise be able to.

Is it subject specific?

ALJC also has a number of subject specific packages available which allow specialist publishers to include titles so they can be purchased by relevant institutional collections. Packages include:
  • Archaeology & History Law
  • Life Sciences
  • Linguistics & Arts Medicine
  • Religion & Philosophy
  • Science
  • Social Sciences
  • Technology

How does the collection work?

ALJC offers an umbrella licence to an institution or consortia with one straightforward pricing model. Library end-users are given instant access to the ALJC through SwetsWise Online Content, Swets’ e-journal gateway, and the SwetsWise interface offers easy search and browse facilities to access the most extensive multi-publisher collection of e-journals available.

How can I take part?

The ALJC is open only to ALPSP members and operates on the following basic principles:
  • A standard contract is signed between Swets and participating publishers
  • Journals are included in the Full Collection and in the appropriate Sub-collections
  • The ALJC is offered to libraries under a single standard contract
  • Revenues earned from contracts are shared on an agreed basis
  • Access to content through 'Swets Online Content (SWOC)' is provided without additional costs.
