Description Abstract The aim of this chapter is to discuss the analysis of the reporting clause in translating Confucius’s Lun Yu (or ‘Lunyu’; Lún Yǔ; 論語) into English, with special focus on translating the reporting clause in a section of Chapter 14 in Lun Yu. The discussion shows that even the analysis of a single example from Lun Yu can provide implications for translation studies within a systemic functional linguistics framework.
