6. | Description | Abstract | (fl. 42 BC) In 43 BC three political and military leaders, the triumvirs, Mark Antony, Lepidus and Octavian (who later adopted the name Augustus), seized what amounted to absolute power in Rome. The following year the wealthy women of Rome marched to the Forum in the centre of Rome where Hortensia made a speech to the triumvirs, demanding that they change their plans to impose a tax on the richest 1400 Roman women. |
