Description Abstract This contribution examines the ways in which loan words are used in Chinese interaction through a case study of the interactional application of the English loan-word then in Singaporean Chinese. Lee’s study provides insights into the intercultural aspects of Chinese conversation, and so it forms a ‘bridge’ between micro level and macro-level research, that is, the two parts of the present volume.
