The following chapter aims to articulate an explicit theory that can be applied to metal scenes across the planet. Such a theory must go beyond synchronic conceptions and instead account for the emergence, devel- opment, and continually fluctuating fortunes of local heavy metal scenes, including considerations such as generational succession, relations with neigh- bouring scenes, and the role of musical amateurism |
