Description Abstract This chapter examines the evolving strategic calculations and directions in Chinese foreign policy toward the Middle East and their implications by reviewing the Sino Shi‘a relationship in general, and introducing China’s policy toward Iran, Iraq, Syria, Hezbollah, and Hamas in particular. With the end of the Cold War and the revival of Shi‘a, China’s strategic approach toward the Middle East changed thoroughly.
