6. Description Abstract In this chapter the tripartite division of supralaryngeal airflow in speech is described. It is noted that the movement and position of the velum allows oral only airflow, nasal only airflow, and combined oral and nasal airflow (‘nasalized’). Examples are provided from normal and disordered speech.
