6. Description Abstract In this chapter perceptual aspects of hearing are described; in particular the frequency range that humans can perceive, and also the intensity range. The notion of the difference limen (just noticeable difference) in perception is discussed, and a set of measurement scales provided: mels, sones, phons and the bark scale.
