Description Abstract The purpose of this short study is twofold: first, to provide a systematic presentation of the geographical and chronological diffusion of ancient Christian and Jewish epigraphic texts, of their contexts and of the Biblical books and passages they mostly quote; secondly, by comparing the Jewish and Christian epigraphic evidence and placing it within its broader socio-historical and religious context to discuss a particular aspect of it, namely that in some cases the use of these Biblical quotations served as religious demarcation of individuals or communities.
