6. Description Abstract The aim of this paper is to present a surface collection survey design which could be used to define likely areas of domestic activity. Many kinds of sites are relatively impervious to discovery through methods other than field survey and lithic artefacts are only the only obvious pointer. This approach is assessed in terms of the results of a survey in the Abingdon area of the upper Thames Valley.
