Description Abstract Over the relatively short life of the modern-day academic study of religions, scholars have posited a range of conceptual foci to gain analytical purchase on the phenomenon of religion. These include belief, myth, ritual, symbolism, practice, ethics, performance, experience, power, charisma, embodiment, materiality, and visuality. This contribution will discuss what difference it might make to the study of religion if ‘sound’ or ‘aurality’ featured more prominently on that list.
