Abstract |
Chapter Four forms a critical and analytical study of the roots of the creedal school of al-Māturīdī and the relationship to Abū Ḥanīfa and his disciples, as well as the overall relation to the Ḥanafī juristic school in terms of creed. It also considers whether the Māturīdite school is a natural extension of the Ḥanafīte school in creed as reported from Abū Ḥanīfa and his disciples, or if it is rather a departure from their approach. This chapter also discusses the creedal heritage of al-Ṭaḥāwī and al-Māturīdī as they both belong to the Ḥanafite madhhab in terms of Fiqh and each claimed to be, or was described by followers as, the legitimate representative of the creed of Abū Ḥanīfa. |
