6. | Description | Abstract | Islamic religious education offered as a subject in school is a state responsibility. This means according to national curricula that it has to be taught in German and in principle by state-trained teachers. The Hesse curriculum for Islamic religious education contains suggestions with concrete content fields. This has now become an important issue, because the subject still has no curricular tradition. The new core curriculum for Hesse is the mandatory curricular document for instruction at Hessian state schools on all subjects in the primary and secondary level. This paper deals with the genesis and development of Islamic religious education in Hesse. The first section gives a brief overview of the historical development of Islamic religious education in Germany and describes the Hesse model in detail and identifies its significant aspects. Section two delineates the Hessian core curriculum. This part clarifies a number of important questions. In the final section the textbook “Mein Islambuch” , which is licensed by the Hessian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs will be considered. |
