Abstract |
This chapter introduces text samples from Indonesian, English-speaking, and Arab contexts that represent various ways in which contemporary Qurʾānic interpretations, especially Qurʾānic commentaries, appropriate exegetical traditions, identify with them, and situate themselves within them: by continuing the genealogical tradition of tafsīr; by condensing it; by editing, translating, and reshaping it; and by using new paradigms to defend traditional arguments. |
