Abstract |
Whereas many artists perfect a particular style without becoming innovators, Mark Murphy was a true pioneer of jazz singing. Not only was he a master of pure vocal technique, particularly with bebop, Latin and the ballad, he was capable of limitless invention when it came to scat and other aspects of improvisation. His live performances also incorporated spoken word and broad comedy.
