Abstract |
Murphy inspired awe in the many jazz singing students he tutored over the years. He did not teach from a textbook or try to inculcate more than the most basic tenets of the art; his method, rather, was to help individuals to improve. This involved diagnosing what was holding back their performances, whether it was breathing, diction, projection, expression, confidence, relaxation, repertoire or scat singing. |
