Abstract |
This step of the Buddha’s eightfold path is often translated as ‘Right Intention’ or ‘Right Thought’. More accurately, saňkappa means resolving to do x, making up one’s mind to do x, or making a commitment to do x. In this context it means resolving, on the basis of one’s Right Understanding of the Four Noble Truths, to work towards the end of one’s craving and aversion, renouncing (or moderating) worldly attachments, and living in harmlessness and love (good will) toward all sentient beings. |
