6. Description Abstract Chapter 5 addresses the process of item writing and approval. The selected 7,762 lemmas were translated into Spanish, Chinese, and German, along with associated prompts in each language. These were then embedded into the Vocabulary Challenge website backend database, which included a mechanism for allocating items to participants and collecting response data. Also described are the promotional channels employed to ensure good reach across relevant regions. Item response numbers for each language are summarised.
