6. | Description | Abstract | By the start of the 1970s Ivor Cutler was in demand as a performer on stage, as a solo artist or in support of leading rock acts. This chapter discusses his stage appearances from the early 1970s onwards: a collection of poetry readings, concerts and benefit gigs that featured him solo or in the company of a few fellow performers including Bruce Lacey, Soft Machine and Van Morrison. In 1971, one of these performers, poet and author Phyllis King, met Ivor while on holiday in Ibiza and began a personal and professional relationship with him that would last for 40 years. The chapter includes contributions from Phyllis King, DJ and broadcaster Andy Kershaw, Ivor’s “manager” David Jones and others. |
