6. Description Abstract My three years at Sussex University completed and already established as a recording musician, I returned to London to my parents’ house in Edgware in order to undertake a PhD at Birkbeck College, London University specializing in concepts of time and chronology in the mid-Victorian novel, and saw my future either in academia, writing books about the movies or producing radio shows. In fact, I gave them all a go – working as a supply teacher in London schools and teaching a London University extra-mural literature course, helping the British Film Institute design seasons of classic and forgotten British movies for the National Film Theatre and being taken on by the fledgling Capital Radio to produce a weekly easy listening show to be hosted by Dirk Bogarde.
