6. Description Abstract There are so few Black Atheists in the United States for a number of reasons. The factors that tend to correlate with being Atheist in America tend to negatively correlate with Black Americans (ie: income, education level, exposure to other Atheists). This coupled with the historical centrality and importance of the ‘Black Church’ to Black America as a whole, and the stigma against Atheists that arose as a result, begin to explain why there are so few Black Atheists in The United States.
