6. Description Abstract Prejudice is thinking differently about people with some characteristic, usually in a negative way. Discrimination is treating people differently on the basis of some characteristic they hold. There is robust research indicating that there is widespread prejudice against atheists in many countries, though not all countries. The extent to which that prejudice translates into discrimination varies, but there is compelling evidence that many atheists experience discrimination, though it varies in severity.
