6. Description Abstract This sūra is devoted almost entirely to the story of Joseph, beloved son of Jacob. While there are many parallels between the Qur’ānic version and the account in Genesis 37–50, there are also some striking differences. In contrast to his biblical counterpart, Jacob is a prophet who is not tricked into thinking Joseph was killed. The Qur’ānic Jacob is also clairvoyant, even though he cannot physically see, and in the end miraculously receives his sight when Joseph’s shirt is laid over his face.
