Abstract |
“Multilingual Studies as a Multi-dimensional Space of Interconnected Language Studies”, written by Matthiessen, Teruya and Wu, introduces multilingual studies as a new field of investigation and application that connects the different areas, including language typology, language description, translation (including interpreting), translator education, translation studies, foreign/second language teaching, multilingual lexicography (including multilingual term banks for translation), and multilingualism. These areas have been developed over the last half of the 20th century and tend to be drifting apart owing to the institutionalization of the disciplines. It is envisaged that these neighbouring areas can inform each other and benefit from interacting with each other. |
