He is author of numerous books and articles on Christian Origins, reception history of the Bible, and English politics and religion, reception history of the Bible, including Cults, Martyrs and Good Samaritans: Religion in Contemporary English Political Discourse (Pluto, 2018). Description

This chapter looks at how the American and French revolutions provided a suitable context both for updating the negative press Ball had received for 400 years and for rescuing the memory of 1381, including how these debates were played out between Edmund Burke and Thomas Paine.
