He has authored more than a hundred publications on diverse topics related to the ancient world, including Nocturnal Ciphers: The Allusive Language of Dreams in the Ancient Near East (New Haven: American Oriental Society, 2007) and “Wordplay” in Ancient Near Eastern Texts (Atlanta: Society of Biblical Literature, 2021).

Description

The way Joseph deals with the dreams of his cellmates is similar to Mesopotamian and late Egyptian manuals for the interpretation of dreams, a practice the Bible does not list among prohibited divinatory practices.
