Description

Chapter One surveys the state of Beauvoir scholarship as well as rehearsing some of the recent interrogations of the category of religion. Despite the ubiquitous engagement in Beauvoir’s writings with figures of religion, there is at present a gap in Beauvoir scholarship which this study aims to fill. The problem of “religion” as an object of inquiry and the breadth of contemporary academic discourse on religion is reviewed, and Derrida and Certeau within it.
